Michael P. Flanagan, Ph.D., M.S., PA-C joined The Allergy Clinic in July 2007 during a career change that brought him from the laboratory bench into clinical practice. Mike brings his academic background with him into the exam room where he takes great pleasure in educating patients about how their immune system functions and about the role it plays in regards to their condition.
Education and Training
Mike received his doctoral degree in immunology from Iowa State University and for the next 16 years he conducted research and published scientific papers in the fields of allergy and immunology. In his previous position as Director of Research for Allergenics, Inc., he led a team of scientists developing a novel approach to allergen immunotherapy. As a result of his involvement in clinical trials with that company, Mike found himself being called toward patient care. At the age of 46, he returned to the classroom and received his Master of Science in Medicine from Western Michigan University's Physician Assistant program.
Personal
Mike's wife has a background in Art/Art History and he says that she balances out his "geeky scientist" personality. Together they like to travel within the U.S. and abroad where they enjoy experiencing the art, food and culture of the region.
